attorneyjay  > Travel > Middlebury: My Hometown
I grew up in Middlebury having lived on Steinmann Avenue from 1962 - 1983 (age 1 1/2 to 22). I returned in May 2008 to revisit the old neighborhood and town. I went to the most memorable sites from childhood and photographed them for posterity. Feel free to add your comment below a pic if it strikes some memory with you.

attorneyjay > Former Pomperaug High School in Southbury - now a middle school. View from the former student parking lot toward old administrative office location. Everything shown is new since it was the high school. I attended from 1974-78.
attorneyjay > Gymnasium. When the high school it was not connected to other buildings as it is now.
attorneyjay > View from farthest edge of old student parking lot toward admin ofices. The center area is also where we were dropped off of the school bus and where we boarded at end of day.
attorneyjay > Closer view of renovated former admin offices (main entrance to school)
attorneyjay > New section connecting gym to main school building. As students we always entered through the locker room at the rear of the gym (not shown)
attorneyjay > Another close up view of where students were picked up and dropped off by school buses.
attorneyjay > Opposite angle from previous pics. Background is former student parking lot. It was not landscaped when a high school.
attorneyjay > Former Fran & Jack's Food Store, later known as A & J Food Center. Most kids who lived on Steinmann Avenue or nearby remember walks or quick bike rides to this store for candy, drinks, baseball cards, grinders or maybe some food staples mom needed. I remember Chris “"Kippy"” Brown picking up cigarettes for his mom. They would sell them to kids then.
attorneyjay > Another view of Fran and Jack's/A & J with Rocky Ferucci's old gas station on the right. Rocky was our neighbor until he divorced. We typically bought our gas here as long as the station was in business. It was a Citgo (before Chavez) and then a Phillips 66 and then I think a Mobil. It was the days when “full service” meant checking under the hood, topping off oil, washing the windshield and other courtesies.
