The Squires won the District 3 championship over the Irish, the title is the first in the 46-year coaching career of Delone head coach Jim Dooley. It wasn't easy for the Squires, who had not won a boys' district title since 1985. Delone trailed 35-32 late in regulation before a wild scramble in the last 15 seconds resulted in Seth Bullers' 3-pointer from the top of the key to tie it. In overtime, tied at 37, Squires point guard Brett Smith stepped to the foul line. Smith had made just four of 21 shots from the field. The junior knocked down a pair of charity tosses. Then, after a turnover, Smith found Bullers on a backdoor cut for a layup and an insurmountable 41-37 lead with 31 seconds to go.
